UKC3 Surrey Cyber Security Cluster

Surrey is home to the only UKC3 recognised cybersecurity cluster in the southeast UK.  The cluster represents a collaboration between universities, public organisations and cybersecurity sector-based across the region, and is designed to further growth and innovation in the sector through dedicated administration and project funding streams.

Cyber Working Group

Despite the sensitive and secretive nature of cybersecurity, Surrey operates a collaborative Cyber Working Group. This space offers an opportunity to discuss trends, threats and opportunities for innovation across the businesses leading the charge in cyber-defence. As well as business, the Cyber Working Group is supported by the University of Surrey and Royal Holloway, along with government advisors and other affiliated organisations that bring their expertise to the table.

Gold Standard Universities

Two of the UK’s five Gold Standard Cyber Security Universities (Royal Holloway and University of Surrey) are located in Surrey.  Royal Holloway’s world-class research in cyber security has been recognised by GCHQ and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), one of only three universities in the UK to achieve such status.  Royal Holloway is also one of the founder institutions of the International Cyber Security Centre of Excellence.

Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP)

The Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) is a world-leading research centre, dedicated to discovering new methods that enable computers to process human speech and visual information. It is the largest biometric test lab in Europe, which has been set up to evaluate facial recognition systems. The lab conducts innovative research into biometric traits – voices, faces, fingerprints or irises – with the aim of developing systems that can accurately identify people from these traits alone.

Surrey Cyber Security Cluster

The UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration (UKC3) has officially recognised the county of Surrey as a cluster within the cyber security sector, following their application in March 2022. This accolade supports the growing success and prestige of the sector across the region and will help to put Surrey on the map as a key player within the cyber security space.
