Surrey is home to world class universities that provide R&D support to innovative businesses, as well as a number of renowned international schools. Surrey has exceptional talent and a well qualified, highly skilled workforce.


There are 1.2 million people living in Surrey, with a working age population (aged 16-64) of 0.7 million. This is projected to rise by almost 20% by 2033. Surrey has a highly skilled workforce, with over 50% qualified to degree level or higher, compared to 38% nationally (source: ONS data).

Over half of all jobs in Surrey are in the top occupational categories covering managers, senior and professional occupations. Over the next 20 years there is forecast to be a further shift towards these higher-end occupations, as Surrey’s knowledge-based sectors drive innovation and enterprise.
